The Unit was established in 1997 with about 25 member. Thomas D Sa was installed as the President.

The unit endeavours to actively participate in activities promoted by the parent body and also takes up matters of local interest by means of input sessions, seminars, camps, agitations etc.

Today the Unit has over 600 members.

Presently Raphael D’Souza is the President and Mrs. Angela D’Souza is the Secretary.

Felix Aranha is the Central Counselor from the Unit.

At the recently held elections for Deanery Council Mrs. Angela D’Souza was elected as Borivali Deanery Counselor.

In the election to the Executive Committee of the parent body for the next five years Mr. Raphael D’Souza has been elected

Activities conducted by Sabha over the years

Senior Citizen Desk operated until 2004 with the help of AGNI coordinator.

Campaign to vote for candidates with clean records is regularly held prior to all elections, Lok sabha, Vidan Sabha and Municipal Corporation by distributing Affdavits of candidates. This programme is carried out with close association with AGNI.

Interaction with elected Municipal Corporators of R-Ward in March, Inter-Religious prayer meet on 15th August, Input Session on Right to Information Act, result was BMC forced to remove Pan-Beedi kiosk that was existing for ages outside church premises), Bone Density check up camp, Candle Light Rally at Borivali Station in memory of people who lost their life in Train Bomb Blasts, Signature campaigns against atrocities against Christians and minorities, Participation in the Rally to oppose SEZ at Gorai-Uttan, Participation in morcha against land acquisition at Sahar. Active representation in installing traffic signal at Don Bosco Chowk etc. have been some of the recent activities.

On 27.4.2008 at the Sabha day our Secretary Angela D’Souza was honoured as one of the most active Unit office bearers. Aja Nachle dance performance of Ms. Gladlyn D’Souza was appreciated by all. In the president’s speech Dolphy made special reference to the contribution of our Unit president.

Harry Menezes of our unit was instrumental in putting in motion the Sabha web site.

On 29.6.2006 Unit will hold the Annual General Meet after 5.30 pm mass. 5.30 pm mass will be animated by Executive Committee of our Sabha unit.

Immediately after the AGM there will be presentation of awards - Model Youth of the Year and Don Bosco businessman/professional of the year. Entry forms are available at the Parish Office from 3.5.2008. Last date for submission 10.6.2008.

The award presentation will be followed by cultural programme and dinner. Contribution for Dinner is Rs.100/-.

ACTIVITIES OF THE UNIT


10th October 2008

The Unit held a drive for collection of clothes and articles of daily use for the victims of the atrocities on Christians in Orissa. The drive was very successful and a whole room full of articles of clothing, etc. were collected. These were packed in boxes/crates and are being sent to Orissa.


29th June 2008

The Annual General Body Meeting of The Bombay Catholic Sabha, St John Bosco Church Borivli Unit was held on 29th June 2008. The proceeding started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 5.30 pm in the church which was animated by the BCS committee members. This was followed by the AGM in the school auditorium followed by a cultural and entertainment programme and concluded with dinner for all present.
